UI Health Care's Department of Finance and Accounting is seeking a Senior Financial Analyst.  

This position is eligible to participate in remote work. Remote work must be performed at a location within the state of Iowa. Successful candidates who participate in remote work must comply with requirements of the remote work program and related policies. 

The Senior Financial Analyst will work closely with the Senior Director of Government Reimbursement and other UI Health Care staff to accumulate and analyze financial and non-financial data relating to expenses and operations.  The role uses established accounting and governmental regulations to prepare reports and presentations and provides support for the preparation of all third-party reporting within time constraints as designated.  

Key responsibilities include:

Financial Oversight and Budgeting

  • Assist in the preparation of departmental reports utilizing Medicare cost report data.
  • Provide support and assist in analyses for departmental and management questions and for new requests as they arise.

Financial Reporting

  • Responsible for the preparation of all third-party cost reporting statements within time constraints as designated by the Medicare Intermediary and by the Medicaid Enterprise (both IA and IL). 
  • Work closely with all third-party reimbursement auditors and special audit groups as required.
  • Maintain cost report support/detail to support the allocation of costs in the general ledger for Medicare reporting requirements.
  • Work closely with the Graduate Medical Education (GME) office to coordinate reporting and maintain required documentation to support reimbursement requirements.
  • Coordinate the various time and effort reporting requirements needed for the Medicare Cost Report.  Monitor and analyze submitted time reports.
  • Maintain the log of available beds per Medicare reporting requirements.
  • Various other financially related projects as assigned.

Financial Analysis and Planning

  • Prepare interim Medicare cost report estimates and provide variance analyses on changes from prior years and versus expectations.
  • Assist the Senior Director of Government Reimbursement with other ad hoc and interim analyses in support of the due to/from third-party accruals.
  • Provide support and assist in analyses for departmental and management questions and for new requests as they arise.

Compliance 

  • Must be able to read and interpret Medicare & Medicaid regulations and assist in the development of processes used for data collection and reporting. 
  • Must work closely with both the Senior Director of Government Reimbursement and other hospital staff to keep them apprised of the issues of relative importance affecting, or potentially affecting third-party reimbursement.
  • Assist in providing training to UI Health Care departments regarding issues related to the Medicare Cost Report.

Leadership

  • Assist in providing training to UI Health Care departments regarding issues related to the Medicare Cost Report.
  • Assist in providing functional supervision to the Financial Analyst, particularly in regard to the preparation of the Medicare Cost Report.

Required:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Accounting or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • 3 years of accounting, auditing, cost accounting, budget and/or financial analysis experience.
  • 2 years of experience in hospital reimbursement or with a Medicare Fiscal Intermediary.  Must have experience in either preparation or auditing of Hospital Medicare Cost Reports.
  • Reasonable knowledge of complex financial and statistical analysis and presentation.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects with excellent follow-up skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in computer software applications.  Must have experience using Microsoft Excel
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Desired

  • Experience with Graduate Medical Education, Disproportionate Share and/or Organ Transplant.
  • Experience using HFS Hospital Medicare Cost Report Software
  • Experience with Microsoft Access and/or SQL Server Management Studio
  • Experience with Epic’s Patient Accounting System. 
  • Experience with Medicaid reimbursement.
