The Stead Family Department of Pediatrics is seeking a Research Grants Financial Manager (PRM3)  responsible for the preparation, negotiation, and administration of research related programs, including pre and post award administration for grants, contracts, subcontracts, and clinical trials. Develop educational tools and provide technical expertise to researchers and their staff.  Analyze internal/external funding trends and project the effect on departmental budget.  Facilitate the Pediatric research enterprise and the strategic goals of the research mission. This is a full time position.

 

Remote work may be considered for this position depending on the candidate’s location and interest. Remote work must be performed at a location within the state of Iowa. or Illinois.  Successful candidates who participate in remote work must comply with requirements of the remote work program and related policies.

 

Duties to include:

 

  • Perform queries for funding opportunities. Perform routine review of grant funding agency regulations to identify/obtain specific grant or guideline information and to assure information is integrated into the grant submission documents appropriately. Communicate funding opportunities, maintain database of grant applications.

 

  • Develop, prepare, revise, and finalize project budgets, and provide budget justification; obtain cost sharing commitment and support. Serve as liaison and active partner between principal investigators, Office of Sponsored Research, research groups, and other departments; respond to sponsor inquiries; advise of new regulations.

 

  • Assure compliance with contract/grant terms in accordance with University policies and state and federal regulations.

 

  • Oversee and manage a large group of externally and internally funded grants and contracts. Coordinate and execute the transfer of grants for faculty leaving the University and faculty onboarding with the University; communicate with the PI and Sponsored Programs within the University and former institution, as needed.

 

  • Monitor spending and budgets for all grants, contracts and programs including approving TDRs, processing webCV, tracking financials, grant renewal dates, grant end dates;

 

  • Work with PIs to assure required program reports are completed and sent to funding agencies. Advise PIs on spending and commitment activity. Advising PI’s and administration when P&S personnel are “at risk” of lost funding.

 

  • Maintain a database of grant applications awarded and pending.

 

  • Coordinate and execute the transfer of grants for faculty leaving the University and faculty onboarding with the University; communicate with the PI and Sponsored Programs within the University and former institution, as needed.

 

  • Provide functional and administrative supervision of staff. Oversee and review work of other staff.

Required Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance or an equivalent combination of education and relevant research grant experience.
  • Demonstrated (3 to 5 years) related grant accounting and financial experience
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Experience managing multiple deadlines and ability to pay attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in computer software applications, including Microsoft Word and Excel

 

Desirable Qualifications

 

  • Demonstrated experience with research grant management
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements regarding pre- and post-award administration.
  • Familiarity with federal grant policies, procurement, and accounts payable/receivable.
  • Experience with account reconciliation.
  • Knowledge of and experience with NIH grant processes and requirements.
  • Experience working with computer programs and applications specific to grant submissions (e.g Cayuse, RPPR and Proposal Central).
