The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics department of Finance and Accounting Services is seeking a Senior Financial Analyst to develop and implement solutions to support the accounting and financial reporting demands of UI Health Care. Areas of major focus include accounting and financial reporting duties for retail and contract pharmacy, providing technical assistance to campus users who are interpreting financial information or creating accounting entries, and various ad-hoc analyses for executive leadership.

 

Key Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Independently prepare accounting entries to record activity for retail & contract pharmacies and other revenue cycle functions as needed.
  • Assist with set-up and maintenance of new software tools used to track retail pharmacy accounts receivable.
  • Reconcile retail and contract pharmacy accounts receivable balances and report on key performance indicators.
  • Independently coordinate with department administrators and accounting personnel to ensure deferred revenue accounting entries are accurate
  • Prepare and post monthly Accountable Care Organization (ACO) receivable entry
  • Provide technical assistance to campus users with financial reporting analysis and usage of financial reporting and accounting applications.
  • Work with existing UIHC/UIHV/CCOM team members to receive sufficient cross-training of departmental duties
  • Assist auditors from Auditor of State and external CPA firm with annual audits and data requests.
  • Review internal overhead allocation methodologies, assist with development of related financial reports to provide transparency around the calculations.
  • Assist with development and testing of new general ledger and financial reporting tools.
  • Perform ad-hoc financial analysis for internal and external parties as requested.
  • Gather and manipulate raw data, summarize and report key takeaways of analyses.
  • Understand UI Healthcare accounting policies and procedures.
  • Contribute ideas and seek ways to improve existing processes.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent amount of education and experience
  • 3 years of accounting, auditing, and/or financial analysis experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated proficiency with the Microsoft software applications including: Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Word.
  • Strong attention to detail and demonstrated ability to perform complex financial analyses
  • Self-motivated individual with willingness to learn
  • Ability to work independently and with cross-functional teams
  • Time management skills and the ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to think critically and creatively when working with data

 

Desired qualifications

  • Experience in health care accounting
  • Demonstrated experience providing financial reporting to management/leadership
  • Master’s degree in Business Administration or Accounting
  • Certified Public Accountant license
  • Experience with relational databases, structured query language (SQL), Tableau
  • Experience in identifying opportunities for operational improvement, using creative efforts to bring about solutions.
  • Ability to work effectively in ambiguous and complex situations.
  • Knowledge of University of Iowa accounting principles, internal controls, and information systems.

Position is advertised at the Senior Financial Analyst and Financial Analyst levels.  One position will be filled between the two postings.
