The Department of Pathology is seeking a Laboratory Technician II to perform a variety of laboratory procedures, tissue/specimen transport service and clerical tasks for the Tissue Bank within DeGowin Blood Center. This position is required to move up to or greater than 25 lbs. long distances throughout the hospital, which can add up to several miles per day between the Tissue and Cellular Therapy laboratory and other locations within UIHC. This transport may involve the use of coolers, carts, or other means of conveyance.  This position is 100% time, Monday – Friday, 1st shift, 0630-1500.

 

Duties to include:

  • Performs daily operations in the tissue bank.
  • Performs routine pick-up and delivery of surgical tissues, laboratory specimens, and other related items to surgical areas, clinical areas, and laboratories throughout the UIHC main campus.
  • Performs required clerical/computer tasks.
  • Performs cleaning of tissue transport containers and work area.
  • Receives and unpacks supplies received from outside vendors.

Minimum Eligibility Requirements:

  • Two years of related laboratory experience including one year as a Laboratory Technician I or equivalent level experience, OR
  • Certified Laboratory Assistant (CLA) certification, OR
  • Any combination of related post high school education and laboratory experience which totals two years.

Special Qualifications:

  • Public Contact/Customer Service
  • High school diploma or equivalent (required to meet CAP and CLIA regulations).

 

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience in Tissue Bank is highly desirable. 
  • Able to move>25 pounds.
  • Able to traverse several miles per day
