The Department of Pathology is seeking a Laboratory Technician IV to provide under general supervision, direct the operation of difficult and complex technical duties related to specimen processing, computer/clerical duties, telephone inquiries, routine laboratory maintenance and supply distribution.  May perform moderate complexity testing.  Provides functional and administrative supervision over shift personnel, including lab technicians, student lab techs, and medical laboratory scientist/medical laboratory technician (MLS/MLT) staff. This position is 100% time, 4 – 10-hour shifts, 1300-2330, Monday - Friday with rotating weekend on-call.

 

 Duties to include:

  •  Directs and performs the pre-analytical processes including data entry, labeling, specimen receipt, accessioning, and processing on clinical and research specimens.
  • Serves as the technical subject matter expert for telephone inquiries requiring advanced knowledge of specimen collection techniques and laboratory protocols.
  • Reviews variance and PSN reports, initiates responses, and relays information to ALM or designee. 
  • Operates laboratory equipment and monitors equipment performance, diagnoses problems and makes repairs or initiates service requests.
  • Performs bench duties regularly, and maintains technical competency on all benches.
  • Provides direct supervision of shift personnel.

Minimum Eligibility Requirements:

  •  Five years of laboratory experience including one year as Laboratory Technician III or equivalent level experience, or 
  • Certification as a Certified Laboratory Assistant (CLA) and three years of Laboratory experience (one year at LTIII or equivalent), or
  • Any combination of related post high school education and experience which totals five years, or
  • Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician and one year related laboratory experience.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Clinical Laboratory experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with EPIC Beaker Laboratory Information System.
  • Experience working with Middleware and automation is highly desirable.
  • Experience providing functional supervision is desired.
  • High volume public contact/customer service experience.
