Financial Analyst - Radiation Oncology
The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics Department of Radiation Oncology is seeking a Financial Analyst to perform complex accounting functions, budget and financial analysis responsibilities including clinical trials and biology research program financial operations. Duties to include:
Financial Oversight and Budgeting:
- Monitor and reconcile account expenditures, irregularities, answer inquiries regarding usage and status of accounts; advise in usage and status of account; provide recommendations and implement corrective action.
- Responsible for opening and closing accounts.
- Provide budget oversight, conduct analysis of financial information to assist with clinical trial and research budget preparation.
- Analyze and prepare monthly statement reports; maintain database record-keeping system to track all expenses and revenues. Moderate knowledge of financial systems. Assist in the development of financial proformas for financial planning.
- Obtain and analyze statistical data for use in reports and presentations.
- Analyze and audit account statements and reports; verify trial account compliance with source of funding guidelines, etc.
- Maintain account balances and reconcile differences between various account balances and external sources.
- Respond to financial inquiries from key stakeholders.
- Participate on assigned workgroups and committees charged with reviewing Clinical Trials and research administrative level finances and practices; obtain and analyze information; provide recommendations; implement change as appropriate.
- May contribute to implementation of policies and procedures. May perform external reporting requiring compliance with reporting standards.
- May provide training and functional and/or administrative supervision of staff.
Financial Reporting:
- Complete routine recurring account reconciliations.
- Prepare and submit invoices for services rendered by Clinical Trials and Core Radiation Lab faculty and staff (i.e., protocol administration, data management and radiation user services); monitor outstanding accounts and routine account reporting.
- Answer questions; obtain and input information; ensure information is current and accurate; prepare reports.
- Assist Research Billing Compliance (RBC) Office with filtering and assigning patient expenses to insurance or industry sponsor in accordance with the budget and using EPIC, Tableau, and Oncore. Serve as liaison with the Joint Office of Compliance regarding clinical trial billing compliance issues.
Budget Analysis/Contract Preparation:
- May provide training and functional and/or administrative supervision for staff.
- Consult stakeholders and administrators on budget analysis and submissions with external financial support.
- Analyze and negotiate clinical trials budgets with industry sponsors and/or consortiums and cooperative groups.
- Serve as liaison to University Counsel, accounting offices, faculty, staff, and industry representatives.
- Prepare documentation; submit routing forms and obtain contract approvals as required; monitor and follow up as appropriate.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or Accounting or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 1 to 3 years accounting and/or financial experience.
- General knowledge of accounting practices.
- Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
- Demonstrated proficiency in computer software applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel and various databases.
- Demonstrated problem-solving and teamwork skills required.
Desirable Qualifications
- Experience with financial contracts.
- Experience with University insurance and/or billing process.
- Experience with or knowledge of clinical trials/human subject research.
- Experience preparing and negotiating budgets.
- Knowledge of Medical Terminology.
- Experience with University of Iowa accounting financial systems.
- Knowledge of University of Iowa business policies, procedures and regulations.
