The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics department of Engineering Services is seeking an Electronics Technician I to construct, modify, and maintain electronics equipment used for instruction, research, medical patient care, or other university programs and services. This position will be full-time with a primary schedule of 6:30a.m to 2:30p.m. Monday-Friday. This person will report for our Fire Safety Supervisor, and work closely with our Electronics Technician II to ensure optimized performance of our hospital electronics.

 

Job Duties:

  • Builds custom electronic equipment according to designs prepared by engineers or supervisory personnel.  Assists in preparing schematic and wiring diagrams.
  • Repairs developmental and production electronic equipment such as computers oscilloscopes and X-ray equipment after consultation regarding diagnosis of the repair problem.
  • Modifies functions of various equipment to conform to specific requirements.
  • Performs preventative maintenance on equipment and electronic instruments.
  • Calibrates and adjusts electronic equipment to insure optimum performance.
  • Attends conferences and workshops to keep abreast of developments in the field.
  • Assist with testing and maintenance of low voltage applications (fire alarm, card access, overhead paging, etc).
  • Assist with key assignment and control.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Graduation from a two-year resident electronics trade school, or any combination of training and experience from which comparable knowledge and ability can be acquired.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Iowa State Licensed Low Voltage Electrician
  • Electronic Security Association (ESA) 1; or NICET 1 Certified (NICET preferred)
  • Proficiency in computer software applications (Microsoft Office suite)
  • Attention to detail
