Electronics Technician I - Bioengineering
Position will be filled as either Electronics Technician I or Biomedical Equipment Technician Trainee based on candidate qualifications and interview evaluation. To be considered for different job classification levels, candidate must apply for each position interested in.
Position Summary:
Under direct supervision, assembles, tests and maintains electronic equipment used for instruction, research, medical patient care, or other university programs and services.
The work is primarily performed in a bench/shop environment with occasional work required in a patient care environment.

Percent of Time: 100%
Schedule: Monday – Friday; 8:00 am – 5:00 pm. Some overtime may be required to access equipment, cover absences, emergencies, and peak periods of operation.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of the principles, methods and techniques used in the electronics field.
- Knowledge of the tools and equipment of the electronics field and skill in safe use.
- Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the field.
- Must be able to consistently move objects weighing up to 50 lbs. to and from beds and carts.
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
- Ability to communicate effectively with staff, students and the public.
- Ability to perform preventive maintenance and repairs on electronic equipment.
MINIMUM ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
- Graduation from a two-year resident electronics trade school, or any combination of training and experience from which comparable knowledge and ability can be acquired.
Special Qualifications:
- Must meet the University of Iowa Fleet Services program rules and regulations, due to the ability to drive University vehicles.
Desirable Qualifications
- Previous Biomedical Equipment Technician experience.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
