Provide support for research by conducting experiments, collecting and analyzing results and performing operational duties associated with the laboratory, animal or human research. Key areas of responsibilities include conducting research activities/experiments, collecting, analyzing and summarizing data, preparing reports, contributing to manuscripts/publications, administrative and project management, facilities and equipment management, and supervision/staffing

Duties to include:

Research:

Research in the Wendt lab focuses on understanding and targeting metastatic breast cancer (wendtlab.com). We use a combination of the molecular, cell, and whole animal techniques to model advanced stage disease. As a PRK3 in the Wendt lab you would be expected to function as a specialist/technical expert in either molecular biology, pharmacology, bioinformatics, or murine models of cancer.  Some level of critical analysis of current literature to develop novel approaches in conjunction with the principal investigator we also be expected.

Conduct Experiments:

Conduct complex experiments in using a variety of molecular, cell, and whole animal techniques or be able to interpret and an analyze large sets of data. Develop and implement research plan in close collaboration with the PI.

Analyze and Summarize Data; Prepare Reports; Contribute to Manuscripts, Publications:

Contribute at a high level to the lab/research project as evidenced by documented recognition in publications as an author or for technical assistance. 

Perform complex statistical analysis of data using advanced statistical methods and tools.

Administrative and Project Management:

A major aspect of this position will be to oversee many administrative functions, including but not limited to writing and amending protocols, making decisions regarding the acquisition of equipment and supplies, being responsible for the safety program, and managing staff.

Facilities and Equipment Management:

Determine needs of the lab and/or facilities. 

Gather and determine specifications and maintenance plans for specialized equipment and procure lab equipment.

Supervision/Staffing:

Provide training on basic lab techniques and protocols. 

May participate in managing the performance of staff to assure staff is compliant with UI policies and procedures. 
      

Required Qualifications

A Master’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience

3 years of related experience is required.


Desirable Qualifications

Previous laboratory experience with some level of molecular / cell biology, pharmacology, or whole animal techniques is desirable. Alternatively, some level of experience in bioinformatics and large data analysis is desirable. An overall interest in managing a lab, working with students, and working with the PI to execute existing projects and initiate new research directions.
