Position Specific Summary:
The Healthier Workforce Center of the Midwest is seeking a Creative Media Specialist to carry out various design and communications tasks to support the aims of the Center. Working with the Outreach Core, the Creative Media Specialist produces various multimedia products (i.e. graphic elements, podcasts, videos); ensures brand standards and visual identity; shoots photography, audio, and video for multiple platforms (i.e. website, YouTube, social media, print) and other jobs as assigned. This is a regular, 80%-time position.
Key Areas of Responsibilities and Specific Job Tasks
Media Production
- Operate in multiple-media and/or multiple platforms.
- Provide leadership by forecasting technological change and introducing state-of-the-art media.
- Uses a broad range of techniques in communicating complex ideas to diverse populations.
- Produce, process, edit and complete final design and photography, videography, and audio for communication and marketing efforts.
- Design for multiple media (e.g., print and web).
- Develop coordinated projects that may include video, print materials, web designs, podcast, and other media.
- Align appropriate media and communication tools for the intended audience
Project and Production Management
- Manage the photography, video, audio and flow of multiple publications upon multiple platforms (i.e. print and electronic).
- Plans, organizes, and monitors significant projects.
- Use state-of-the-art media and apply in-depth knowledge of multimedia.
- Acquire and maintain knowledge of current trends in specific areas of expertise.
- Review and select best footage, photos, and audio to deliver message.
- Propose concepts and respond to feedback.
Financial Responsibility
- Develop project options within established budgets.
Supervision/Leadership
- May provide direction, assignments, feedback, coaching and counseling to assure outcomes are achieved for students/temporary staff.
- Maintain positive, collaborative working relationships with faculty staff, center staff, stakeholders, and the public.
Concept and Brand Identity
- Utilize established visual elements and branding standards.
- Design and develop coordinated projects with messaging directed to specific audiences using multiple media (print, web) within HWC’s and University’s brand identity.
- Conceive video-journalistic projects, including field and studio production and direct visual subject matter.
- Acquire and maintain knowledge of current trends in multi-media, photography, videography, design, and illustration.
- Develop visual concepts for communication and marketing efforts.
Education Qualification
A bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
Required Qualifications
A minimum of one year of professional experience with multi-media, such as photography, audio, and video and graphic design.
Strong interpersonal skills including demonstrated excellence with oral and written communication and storytelling.
Ability to work a flexible schedule and to travel as events and/or projects require.
Must be proficient in the use of a variety of design software applications, including the Adobe Creative Suite.
Demonstrated ability to multitask and meet deadlines.
Desirable Qualifications
Proficiency in journalism, including interviewing, story writing, and editing.
Knowledge of University of Iowa policies, procedures, and regulations.
