If you are someone who thrives in working towards student academic support and retention efforts, the Assistant Director, Learning Assistants may be the next opportunity for you! This is a full-time (40hrs) position with full benefits.

 

This position will be a part of the Academic Support & Retention (AS&R) team within University College. You will work to strengthen and facilitate departmental and institutional efforts to promote undergraduate student learning through the Learning Assistant Program. This will include an opportunity to:

  • Coordinate and implement the Learning Assistant Program including recruiting, hiring, supervising and evaluating student leaders and coordinating logistics of the program.
  • Design course curriculum and teach LS:1014:Pedagogy: Creating Collaborative Learning Environments.
  • Assess academic support programming coordinated within the AS&R.
  • Develop and build positive, productive working relationships with a variety of campus constituents and partners.

WHAT YOU BRING:

 

Education and Experience Required

  • A bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience working in higher education within a student success, retention, or student learning support capacity.
  • Reasonable experience (minimum of 1 year) with:
    •  building positive, productive, and collaborative working relationships with a variety of constituents including but not limited to various internal/external stakeholders, campus partners, faculty, staff, and students.
    • teaching or supporting undergraduate students in their learning.
    • project assessment: utilizing tools, techniques and processes for gathering, analyzing, and reporting data in support of unit strategic goals.

 

Competencies Required

  • Demonstrates an extensive proficiency in each of the following areas:
    • Knowledge of and ability to apply various communications techniques to accommodate a variety of audiences and balance multiple perspectives, including effective listening skills.
    • Techniques and tools that promote effective analysis and the ability to determine the root cause of problems and create solutions in the best interest of the institution.
    • Ability to contribute as a member of multiple teams while respecting the unique contributions of individuals from varied identities and backgrounds.
  • Demonstrates a working proficiency in each of the following areas:
    • Knowledge of the operation and application of computer-based academic support systems that support academic activities (preferably electronic retention/student success tools and student information systems).

Desired Qualifications

  • A Master’s degree in higher education, student development, teaching, education, psychology, or a related field is highly desired.
  • Significant (3-5 years) experience with student retention approaches, principles, and theories that strengthen student learning.
  • Reasonable (1-3 years) experience with student supervision.
  • Reasonable (1-3 years) experience with data involving college student retention and success trends
  • Demonstrates a working knowledge and awareness of and insight into the organization's vision, structure, culture, philosophy, operating principles, values, and code of ethics; ability to apply this understanding appropriately to diverse situations.

Additional Details

  • The anticipated hiring salary for this position is a range of $48,000 - 57,000. Reach out to the contact person to learn more about benefits, compensation practices, and career development opportunities.
  • This position is eligible for hybrid work within Iowa and will require a work arrangement form to be completed upon the start of your employment. Per policy, work arrangements will be reviewed annually, and must comply with the remote work program and related policies and employee travel policy when working at a remote location. Work arrangement options will be discussed during the hiring process and are subject to change for training, programming, peak periods, and performance.
