Production Stage Manager - Division of Performing Arts
The Division of Performing Arts is seeking a Production Stage Manager as part of the Performing Arts Production Unit. There are two openings in this classification. One will support the Department of Theatre and one will support the Department of Dance and Opera Theatre in the School of Music.
The Production Stage Manager position for the Department of Dance and Opera Theatre in the School of Music includes overseeing and/or stage managing two Dance concerts, eight to ten Dance events, and two Opera productions per year. The Production Stage Manager for the Department of Theatre Arts includes overseeing five mainstage productions, 4 to 5 galleries, 6 workshops, new play development, and the annual New Play Festival while mentoring graduate and undergraduate students throughout the production process.
The successful candidate will be responsible for facilitating effective, healthy, and productive production environments in collaboration with the directors, dance makers, artists, and staff. This position will report to the Production Manager and work within the Office of Performing Arts and Engagement ensuring successful execution of each production season. Annual attendance and training in intimacy direction and consent-based practices.
Job duties include:
- Schedule, facilitate, and run effective, healthy, and productive production meetings, auditions, rehearsals, and performance spaces.
- Create and update audition guidelines based off industry trends and the needs of the Department.
- Organize and facilitate productions.
- Create and maintain internet based communication sites.
- Stage manage for multiple departments.
- Direct management of staff for rehearsals and performances.
- Mentor graduate and undergraduate student stage managers.

Required Qualifications:
- A bachelor’s degree in stage management, or equivalent combination or related education and experience is required
- Demonstrates considerable (typically 3-5 years) experience in stage management including expertise in calling off movement and/or a score, ability to multi task with deadlines, manage a crew, and ability to identify potential problems and address them in a safe and effective manner.
- Demonstrates excellent written and verbal communication skills including a practical knowledge of creating and maintaining stage management paper work
- Demonstrates skills in promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace, particularly within the fine arts.
- Demonstrates a commitment to open communication and to the value of teamwork in problem solving.
- Deep understanding of AEA and/or AGMA rules and contracts.
- Current with industry standards and trends in stage management.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in stage management or the performing arts is preferred.
- Experience working on productions in an academic setting, preferably in a higher education setting
- Experience in theatre production or opera production and dance production
- Experience working with students in a performing arts capacity, providing a training ground and opportunities for experiential learning.
- Experience in consent-based practices such as Instructional touch, and intimacy direction.
- Actors Equity Association Member, American Guild of Musical Artists Member
