The Human Subjects Office (HSO) at the University of Iowa is seeking an Institutional Review Board (IRB) Education and Outreach Specialist.  This position will provide developmental and administrative assistance and expertise for the human subjects protection programs and services administered by the HSO.  This position will also schedule, prepare, promote and present educational activities for the purpose of compliance with federal regulations, IRB requirements, and University of Iowa policies and procedures for the conduct of research involving human subjects.

This position will have an on-campus presence.

About the Human Subjects Office
The Human Subjects Office (HSO) was established by the Office of the Vice President for Research to provide administrative support for the University of Iowa Institutional Review Boards. An Institutional Review Board is a group of individuals charged with reviewing proposed research involving human subjects to ensure the protection of those subjects and compliance with federal human subjects regulations. The University of Iowa has three such review boards, each consisting of faculty, staff, and representatives from the Iowa City community.

 

Qualifications:

Education or Equivalency Required

Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate discipline or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience (typically 6 months - 1 year) conducting and/or monitoring research involving human participants, or in a related administrative role supporting human subject's research working with federal regulations.
  • Communicating for Effective Relationships: Demonstrates a working proficiency in ability to work with a variety of individuals and groups in a constructive and collaborate manner, including strong writing, public speaking and presentation skills.
  • Accuracy and Attention to detail:  Understands the necessity and value of accuracy and attention to detail and the ability to process information with high levels of accuracy at a working level of proficiency.
  • Service Excellence/Customer Focus: Ability to meet or exceed customer service needs and expectations and provide excellent customer service at a working level of proficiency.


Highly Desirable Qualifications

  • Experience (typically one or more years) conducting and/or monitoring research involving human participants, or in a related administrative role supporting human subjects research.


Desirable Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of federal regulations regarding the protection of human subjects in research.
  • Technical experience with HawkIRB, data management system, or electronic workflow system.
  • Working experience reviewing, editing, or submitting IRB applications for compliance with federal regulations.
  • Certification as a Certified IRB Professional (CIP)
