University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics department of Guest Services is seeking a 50% Patient Escort. This position will be part-time 50% with a schedule of Sunday-Wednesday 10a.m. to 4:30p.m. 

 

Position Summary: The Patient Escort/Greeter proactively welcomes and assists patients and visitors arriving to UI Hospitals and Clinics’ Emergency Department (ED) Entrance. Under the general supervision of Guest Services and in collaboration with Safety & Security and ED unit staff, duties include providing parking directions and wayfinding information, wheelchair assistance, loading/unloading patient belongings, and rounding in the ED waiting area to enhance the patient experience.

 

Job Duties:

  • Demonstrate superior customer service by proactively welcoming all patients and visitors according to appropriate standards.
  • Provide wayfinding directions and information regarding hospital parking options.
  • Partners with and assists others to promote an environment of teamwork and achievement of common goals and embraces his/her role as care partner in the successful delivery of customer service.
  • Provide service recovery and defuse conflict when necessary.
  • Collaborate with Safety & Security and unit staff to maintain screening and safety goals.
  • Proactively interact with patients and visitors in the ED waiting area; assist patients and visitors as needed and appropriate.
  • Assist patients with options for the safe storage of their belongings.
  • May assist with the transfer of patients in/out of vehicles.
  • Reports concerns, comments, and suggestions from patient population regarding services provided.
  • Helps keep reception area uncluttered. Notifies appropriate personnel regarding housekeeping needs, facility-related repair and safety issues.
  • May be asked to transport patients and/or equipment in accordance with hospital policies.
  • Comply with all patient confidentiality and hospital policies.

 

Additional Info: This position has a blood-borne pathogen exposure risk. Must be able to regularly move heavy weight of 100 lbs, and occasionally in excess of 250 lbs via wheelchair or bed. Must be able to remain in a stationary position and move for extended periods of time. Must be able to work in inclement weather. Must be able to move for long periods of time.

Minimum Eligibility Requirements:

  • Ability to read, write and follow instructions

Special Qualifications:

  • Driver's license and ability to meet UI Fleet Safety Driving Record Review Standards

Desired Qualification:

  • Excellent customer service skills; experience working with the general public in a service environment.

  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills; experience working with internal and external customers.

  • Ability to use a mobile phone and other electronic devices.

  • Ability to understand basic floor plan of UIHC.

  • Basic computer skills.

  • Ability to safely drive all types of vehicles.

  • Ability to exceed customer expectations.

  • Ability to move across long distances and remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time.

  • Ability to perform duties indoors and outdoors
